ARCHITECTURAL CASE STUDY

Makana Charters

A visually immersive tourism website developed for Makana Charters, a Native Hawaiian family-owned boat-tour company based on Kauai, Hawaii. The website showcases Nā Pali Coast boat tours, snorkeling experiences, sea-cave exploration, private charters, and the company's fleet of custom catamarans while guiding visitors toward tour availability and booking.

01 // THE CHALLENGE

Makana Charters needed a website capable of selling an experience rather than simply presenting a service.

The business offers multiple boats, group sizes, tour options, departure locations, amenities, and private charter possibilities. The website therefore needed to communicate these differences clearly while keeping the booking journey simple for visitors planning a Kauai vacation.

The site also needed to convey the company’s Hawaiian heritage and the visual appeal of the Nā Pali Coast through strong photography and storytelling.

02 // THE SOLUTION

The website was structured around the customer journey—from discovering the Nā Pali Coast experience to comparing boats, understanding amenities, exploring private charter options, and checking tour availability.

Individual boat pages provide detailed information about capacity, duration, amenities, pricing, and suitability for different groups. Dedicated private-charter pages communicate the customizable nature of the experience, while destination-focused content and galleries help visitors visualize the tour before booking.

Strong booking calls-to-action are placed throughout the site so visitors can move from inspiration to availability and reservation without having to navigate through unrelated information.

03 // CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

“The new website gives guests a much better way to experience Makana Charters before they ever step on the boat. They can explore our fleet, understand the different tour options, see what is included, and easily move toward booking their adventure.”

04 // KEY FEATURES

Architectural Enhancements & Performance Milestones

Tour & Boat Showcase

Dedicated pages present the company's different catamarans, including capacity, duration, amenities, pricing, age requirements, and tour characteristics. Visitors can compare boats before checking availability.

Online Booking & Availability

Prominent “Check Availability” and “Book Now” calls-to-action guide visitors toward selecting a tour and checking available dates, turning the website into a direct booking channel rather than simply an informational website.

Private Charter Experience

A dedicated private-charter section allows visitors to explore customized Nā Pali Coast experiences for different group sizes, with options accommodating groups of up to 12, 16, 32, and 36 passengers depending on the vessel.

Destination Content & Visual Storytelling

The website uses immersive photography, galleries, detailed destination content, FAQs, and educational articles to showcase the Nā Pali Coast, sea caves, marine life, snorkeling, and Hawaiian cultural experience before visitors make a booking decision.
